Some poker hands end in a tie, with two poker online players hold similar cards to make the same hand. For instance, if an Ace comes out, two players may also be holding an Ace, so each has made a pair of Aces. In this situation, the kicker card becomes crucial.
Whoever holds the higher ranked kicker is most likely ahead. The better the kicker, the strong the hand. Whichever players hold the best five cards, including the kicker, wins the pot.
There are times when the kicker doesn’t play. For instance, when two poker online players have paired an Ace on the board, and each has a kicker that is lower than the other four cards on board. For instance, the board has an Ace, Queen, ten and seven. Each player has a kicker less than seven, so the four other board cards make the best hand for each player and the pot is split in a tie. The kicker card is often instrumental for winning pots. This is obvious when players have all made the same pair. But sometimes the board itself presents a winning hand, like two pairs. When no player holds a matching card to make a full house, then the kicker is often the deciding factor for the win. For instance, if the boards has two Jacks and two 10s with a 3, then a player holding an Ace or any card higher than the opponents’ pocket cards, will win the pot.
