Going on a shopping expedition when you are an vacation can be fun. I was looking for some cool accessories and clothes that are ‘in’ this season. We were in Oranjestad for a long holiday and after a week of sight-seeing and beaches, I was ready to shop. We wanted to leave right after breakfast on Sunday to hit the malls and international designer boutiques that we had passed by. Friends had told me about the duty-free shopping and I had looked enviously at their latest collections from the international designer boutiques here. Hearing our conversation at breakfast, the couple at the next table was kind enough to stop at our table and tell us that most shops in Oranjestad were closed on Sunday. We thanked them and started chatting with them casually. I talked to the lady about her shopping spree and she gave me some useful tips about shopping in Oranjestad, and in the Caribbean in general.
We took a cab from our hotel the next morning to Royal Plaza Mall. Duty-free shops, chic stores and a few international designer boutiques later, we settled down with our bags to have a drink at one of the restaurants in the mall. Doug, my husband, suggested that we buy a new suitcase to pack all the new dresses and accessories that I had bought. .
We trooped off to the Louis Vuitton store, and marveled at the variety of travel accessories and suitcases available there. After making arrangements for the new suitcase filled with our shopping bags to be delivered to our hotel we went to the Mont Blanc store, this time for bags and accessories.
An international designer boutique that had me oohing and aahing over the wares was the Swarovski Boutique. I just had to pick up at least one piece from their fabulous collection of jewelry. The gentleman whom we had met yesterday at breakfast had told Doug about the Benlo Cigar store and, of course, Doug had to buy some. So I tagged along, humoring him. After all, I needed him and his credit card, didn’t I?
