An employee in a supervisory capacity has an even bigger role to play than simply general supervision. Whomever you employ as the supervisor is required to see the importance of health & safety training and be able to get other staff feeling enthusiastic. In addition to encouraging compliance with health & safety legislation, the supervisor as well should check that employees perform all their tasks to the best of their abilty. This is a challenging task. To achieve this the supervisor is required to have a broad knowledge of the industry and production in addition to a very high level of knowledge of safety legislation, the identification of risks, and first aid. It just is not enough to supply your staff with health & safety education. Your staff must have practical experience of risk assessment and the identification of hazardous areas. Never in my lifetime would I have thought that I would endure hair loss. I was surprised to find out that my hairline was receding shortly before my 30th birthday. It was rough to believe that I was losing my hair. I was also starting to lose hair on the back of my head.
For the first time in my life, I felt old. I felt like the best years of my life were behind me. I even stopped seeing girls. My love life was nearly non-existent. There was one girl I had been dating nonchalantly and even though I liked her, I just stopped returning her calls. I realised that I hadn’t found the woman of my dreams with a full head of hair so there was no way I was going to find somebody with my growing bald spot. I was too demoralized to even try having a romantic relationship.
Hair loss turned me into a depressed loner, I used to be a confident and outgoing person. I was persistent to get the problem fixed and started looking for a solution. Northampton Crown Court has fined the operations director of a pet food company after one of its employees was crushed to death by a palletising machine.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) started legal proceedings against Philip Thompson, the operations director of Butcher’s Pet Care Ltd, who was responsible for ensuring safety standards at the company’s factory premises.
Thompson admitted his liability for failing to secure dangerous machinery and preventing easy access to it, which amounted to breach of Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. He was fined 10,000 pounds and asked to pay 4,000 pounds as costs.
The facts leading to the prosecution suggest that John O’Connor, an employee of Butcher’s Pet Care Ltd, was working near the palletising machine that was automatic and sensor operated. The machine should have been secured properly, but a gap in its fencing created by the stair rails allowed easy access to it. O’Connor noticed some blockage in the machine and got in through the gap to clear it. However, when the blocked pallet was freed, the machine started moving and Connor was sucked into it and was crushed to death.
HSE’s investigation into the matter disclosed that the gap in the fence had been there for over two years and was often used by employees to fix up small problems. According to HSE Principal Inspector for Northamptonshire Neil Craig, the accident was preventable had the director been more careful about properly securing the machine.

The European Parliament and European Commission are facing the ire of protesting pilots hailing from 36 countries. These Pilots stress that fatigue due to long flight hours is endangering the lives of passengers and staff onboard.
According to a research, 15% of air accidents happen due to pilot fatigue. Citing the research findings, pilots and cabin crew will carry out demonstrations at airports across Europe. They will also lobby the European Parliament in Brussels and highlighting the hazards of long flying hours.
EU regulations and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in Britain have minimum safety standards in place to avoid pilot fatigue. Additionally, many national authorities also impose their own stricter rules.
However, the pilots state that the European officials are refusing to introduce tougher Europe-wide regulations despite the Moebus report that recommends legislative amendments on safety grounds. They are also concerned about the new guidelines brought in by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which may make individual national regulations ineffective.
The Moebus report has been acknowledged by EASA and its recommendations on this issue are being considered.
Pilots in the UK will register their protests in a unique manner, by distributing fake boarding passes. These passes will feature detailed information on crew fatigue and the requirement for amending the present laws. The messages will be displayed as cigarette-style health-warnings. In the UK, these protests are considered as outlawed. However, it seems British pilots will join in the demonstrations across the continent.
Jim McAuslan, the British Airline Pilots Association General Secretary, stated that a pilot’s schedule include early starts, late-night duties, and flying through different time zones. All this takes toll on the pilot’s body, which can only be understood by fatigue experts.

Every team needs an efficient supervisor to watch over the shop floor, however this individual must also fulfill a greater function on the floor. Your selection of supervisor must agree that health & safety education is fundamental and have the ability to get everyone else feeling enthusiastic.
In addition to encouraging compliance with health & safety legislation, a supervisor’s role includes supervising employee performance levels too. This is no easy undertaking. A capable supervisor is advised to have a broad understanding of the industry and the product as well as an extensive experience with safety legislation, the identification of problem areas, and first aid. My hair loss treatment journey begun the day I started to notice my thinning hair and my bald spot becoming bigger.
