T-Mobile to Enable Virgin Trains with Mobile Broadband

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

After pioneering feats like providing the first ever on-train internet access service, on the London to Brighton route and on the Heathrow express trains, the T-Mobile – Nomad Digital duo have launched a new service allowing Virgin’s West Coast Main Line commuters an on board mobile broadband experience.

If you own a WiFi enabled device and are travelling on one of Virgin’s 52 Pendolino trains, mobile broadband can easily be accessed irrespective of the mobile network you use. First class commuters and T-Mobile pay monthly costumers are direct beneficiaries of the service, as they need not pay any extra charge for the access. Others can obtain hotspot passes for their device, provided it is WiFi enabled, by hooking on to the network. If you’re new to mobile broadband, or simply wish to learn more; click here for an informative guide to mobile broadband.

To meet the soaring popularity of mobile broadband, T-Mobile, which is always on the look out for new ways to offer people access, has come up with this first of its kind solution that will make mobile broadband available to all the commuters, said Richard Warmsley, the head of internet and entertainment for T-Mobile, UK.

The WiFi service, which by mid-summer will also be available on Virgin’s 21 Super Voyager trains, will operate on the West Coast Main Line route of London to Southern Scotland that passes through West Midlands and the North West.

Nomad Digital is one of the leading providers of data communications to the transportation industry and has often partnered with mobile operators in the past to provide innovative solutions.

Finally, Manchester Gets High-speed Fibre Optic Broadband

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Last year, a major announcement was made when the City Council of Manchester declared that soon high-end broadband connectivity in the form of a FTTP-enabled network would be launched in the area. As the project goes into the implementation phase, work is about to commence around Oxford Road to install the ‘fibre to the premises’ network, as promised to the residents.

People in the area are eagerly awaiting the launch of these services, because it has been said that once the network begins operating, the broadband speeds available to the residents will be raised exponentially almost by a thousand times. The initiative is a part of the project called Next Generation Digital Citythat has been undertaken for the upgrade of Manchester area’s digital infrastructure.

Councillor Neil Swannick further added that this project was bound to have a major impact on the entire community of Manchester, and place the area’s infrastructure at par with global broadband standards. He added that faster, accessible and comparatively affordable broadband connectivity was necessary to stay competitive. He further stressed upon the fact that the UK’s broadband consumers were at a distinct disadvantage when compared with their counterparts from the rest of the Western Europe. Places like Manchester face stiff competition from the likes of Paris and Amsterdam that are providing fibre-based broadband services at costs that are significantly lower when compared to the existing rates throughout the UK.

The project is not limited to installing the new fibre-based network in just one area. The plan is to spread the installation process to more areas in the vicinity to ensure that nearby places such as East Manchester can also benefit. Central Park District too would soon be digitally upgraded under this endeavour, as it would get a sophisticated Internet Hub.

With brand new hi-tech advancements such as digital Television, HDTV, Freesat & home cinema audio, if you’re present telly machine is greater than five years old, then today a terrific time to buy a new TV. LCD or Plasma: Even though LCD and Plasma TVs function in completely different ways, the advantages of both are very much similar. Nevertheless, it’s imperative to keep in mind that when selecting between a Plasma or LCD TV, it is in actuality simply a question of size. LCD is at its greatest performance up to and including 32 inches, whilst Plasma TVs offer optimal performance at thirty seven inches, & above. For that reason, if you need to purchase a small flat panel telly set, then LCD offers the superior performance, in contrast if you call for1 a larger panel size, then Plasma is certainly the ideal choice.

In conclusion, its essential to keep in mind when acquiring the right television for you, to consider your actual funds, your viewing distance, the look you yearn for and if it’s to be an LCD or Plasma television.

The Must-Have Makeup Products of the Season

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Staying current with today’s cosmetics trends doesn’t mean you need to hire a make-up artist to follow you around 24/7. This season’s hottest cosmetics are simply fun and gorgeous, and anyone can do it with a little know-how. You probably already have almost everything you need for this season, with just a few key purchases to update your look.

Let’s start with the eyes. Spring is the time to put away your dark matte winter colors and lighten up! Sheer colors are very in this year, with everything from green to orange showing up on eyes. The key is to apply with a light hand and never extend too far from your lid to your brow, or you’ll end up looking clownish. Blue eyeliner has been seen all over the runways this season, but how to do it yourself? If you are unsure, start with light sheer blues that you can apply with a fine tip. If you have any blue eye shadows collecting dust now is the time to break them out. Simply use a slanted brush to apply a light dusting only around the outer edges of your eyes; this is sure to give you a fresh, pretty look without going overboard.

Lips and cheeks should also lighten up for spring. Glosses should replace heavier winter lipsticks, but any shade goes. Don’t forget to lighten up on the lips if you are playing up your eyes. Focusing on one feature will help any makeup colors look subtle and natural, even when using some of the more bold spring colors. Shimmery pink for lips and for cheeks is always a hit, and helps to give anyone a bright youthful glow.

Try to ease up on your foundation use in the spring and summer months. Overuse of these products can make you feel weighed down and gives your skin a dull appearance. If your complexion is relatively clear and smooth, opt for oil absorbing sheets rather than loose or pressed powder. This helps to reduce shine without adding layers of makeup to your face. If you do use a powder during the hot months, such as a bronzer, try to opt for loose powder since you can apply less.

When it comes to this season’s makeup trends, the thing to remember is have fun and experiment! Buying just one of the new colors can be just enough to update your look and keep your current.

Clutter: Winning the Battle With Clutter

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Clutter – stashed, stacked, strewn. I frequently come back to this topic because it’s like the Lochness Monster – it may disappear for a time in our lives, but it seems to creep up on us until it rears its ugly head again! Let’s do battle!

Right now on my front porch is a pile of bags and boxes full of shoes, purses, kitchen stuff, grooming products, lamps, an old VCR, tape players, and other perfectly good things that we just aren’t using anymore. All this perfectly good stuff is going to a new home (courtesy of a great charity organization) where it will be put to good use, instead of sitting in our basement or in the back of the closet. Does this feel great? You bet!!

Why does it feel so good to get rid of the clutter in your life? When your life (or your closet) is so crammed with “stuff” that it’s overflowing, there’s no margin, no space for something new and wonderful to come into your life. If you are feeling stuck – start clearing the decks!

If you go into an office or come home to a cluttered, crowded, disorganized space, you don’t have the chance to fully recharge your batteries. That is sapping your energy. Most of us have become masters of disguise, too, keeping our clutter well- hidden behind closet doors, in bottom drawers, in the basement. But, you KNOW it’s there, and it has the same effect.

“At some level of awareness, you become the caretaker for every scrap of stuff you keep. Don’t kid yourself: You are devoting a proportional amount of psychological energy to every object in your domain whether or not you are aware of it from moment to moment.” – Jeff Campbell, Clutter Control

OK, so you’re convinced. Now what?

Set aside one segment of time – an evening, a Saturday morning, an hour here and there – and devote it to cleaning just one area of your home. It could be one drawer, your desk, your pantry, your medicine cabinet, one section of your closet. If you are a professional pack rat, here are some tips for you:

1. DO ask yourself: “When was the last time I used this item?” If you can’t remember – then toss it (or donate it). If you haven’t used it in 6 months – toss it.

2. DON’T ask yourself these questions: “Is this useful?” or “Might I use this someday?” Obviously, the answer would be “yes”, and you’ll keep collecting clutter on top of clutter, and never get rid of anything.

3. Invite a friend over to help. Not another packrat or collector, but someone who is not attached to your junk and will find it easier to be objective about tossing stuff out.

4. Start appreciating the value and beauty of empty space! You’ve all seen those “clean sweep” shows on TV. You know how thrilled those people are when they see their newly reorganized space – complete with clean, white space on the walls, in the cabinets, and on the closet racks.

Every client I have worked with finds this victory over the battle with clutter to be one of their most helpful and rewarding accomplishments. Their lives improve, they get unstuck, they become more productive and disciplined in other areas of their lives – they are basically happier, freer, more energetic people.

Once you’ve done it, keep on doing it. Make this a lifestyle habit. There are many books and websites out there on clearing clutter and getting organized. If you just can’t do it on your own, get a buddy who wants to take on this task in their own life. Commit to each other.

Get started today, and have your first victory celebration as you begin to win the battle with clutter!

Variable Rate Mortgages – Setting The Standard

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Here’s the first mortgage term you should learn – Standard Variable Rate, or SVR. This is the interest rate you will be paying on the total amount you are borrowing. It is usually expressed as a percentage, and is different from an APR (Annual Percentage Rate). An APR includes all costs associated with the loan, such as interest, fees, any compulsory insurances etc.

While interest rates can vary quite widely across the board, all lenders will have a Standard Variable Rate. It’s the default rate for their mortgages, and can provide a good indication of whether they are offering good deals. Comparing different lenders’ SVRs is one way to get an idea of who has lower rates generally – though there will be exceptions to this rule.

This rate fluctuates, going up or down according to the economy and the lender. The biggest factor that effects SVRs is the Base Rate set by the Bank of England. In recent years this has been kept relatively low, and mortgage interest rates have been particularly good for borrowers. However, this could change and you should bear in mind that rates could go up in the future.

Many mortgages start off with special introductory rates, and then revert to the SVR after a set period. These include capped and collared mortgages. There are also ‘fixed rate’ and ‘interest only’ mortgages available, which are covered in more detail further on in the guide. When considering mortgages with special introductory rates, you should also take into account what the SVR is likely to be once your initial period is over. Many mortgages come with the condition that you stick with the same one for several years, even after the special offer period is over. There will often be penalties if you want to change mortgage within this tied period.

Interest calculation, interest charging

Be aware that there is a difference between interest calculation and interest charging. Some mortgages calculate interest daily, which works out as fairer for the borrower as your overall balance is reducing every month, and therefore the interest will be reducing too (even by a tiny fraction, every little helps!). Other lenders calculate interest monthly or annually, although annual calculation should be avoided if at all possible, as you will be paying the same interest for a whole year despite your balance having been reduced by your repayments. You should also ensure that your interest is charge in arrears, rather than in advance.
