A Few Musings Touching on Business Performance Management Software

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Don’t forget that in addition to increased sales, profits can be generated by cutting expenditure and more productive use of assets. Business performance management software, despite often being pushed to the backburner, is a great benefit to corporations seeking to do this.

It’s common knowledge that a profitable company adjusts its systems to the specialties of each staff member in order to get the most out of them. While this knowledge is important, it’s not that easy to obtain.

Defining and keeping track of progress through employee performance management alone can turn into a significant task. First of all, you implement employee evaluation reviews to evaluate and track work done by each worker. If this was done with conventional approaches, you will have to analyze all of that information manually just to set goals, and track future progress. When using performance appraisal software you know that this analysis is done for you and you only need to examine the various analyses and factors to find what an appropriate set of goals for this worker would be. It also makes following the worker’s progress much simpler. This removes the need to spend time on analysis and is likely to be far more precise. There is the possibility to analyze the raw data yourself and use the process only to collate and record everything.

And improving your employees efficiency is simply one thing you can do using performance appraisal software. It’s also worth studying suppliers and clients to be better able to pace your purchasing and conserve money. With suppliers in particular you can more easily see their weak points such as poor delivery times, high rates of damage, etc. As for clients & affiliates, it’s possible to pin down who bringhs you the most resales if there are payment issues, which client experiences the highest loss percentage, and the solutions to other questions. With this information available you become able to tailor your ordering and selling habits to maximize profits and reduce expenses. This information will allow you to determine your best target audience. With this demographic in mind marketing is free to become more effective and simpler to plan. You can study your sources in order to reduce costs and keep up with your target market so that you can maximize profit employing performance appraisal software. It also smoothes out the employee evaluation and helps set definitive goals for your workers significantly. All in all, what can be achieved with this software is almost unbelievable.

Selecting Microsoft Great Plains Partner/VAR/Reseller: ERP Implementation & Customization – Overview

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

In the case when you represent mid-size or mid-size-to-large business, it is not a surprise that you have to do ERP selection and switch to new technologies, doing your own research. If you a trying to stay with Microsoft technologies and try Microsoft Business Solutions products: Microsoft Great Plains, Microsoft Navision, Solomon, Axapta with integration to Microsoft CRM, you should know the history of Great Plains Software and Navision partners over the last 10 years.

• Great Plains Dynamics VAR of earlier 1990th. These companies were a mix of CPAs, received application consulting training. Second feature – these companies were concentrating on the local market, the preferred method was on-site visit, sales technique – cold calls with following hard pressuring sales.

• Great Plains Dynamics C/S+/eEnterprise VAR of 1995-1999. This time, due to the fact of increasing competition on Graphical OS market and Microsoft aggressive market take over, consulting firms had to hire more technical consultants and programmers. These employees were engaged into data conversion, data repair, Great Plains Dexterity interfaces, VBA, ReportWriter, Crystal Reports customizations and web development. This was the time of technology diversification and golden time for programmers. At the same time the importance of application consultant CPA was in the decrease, one of the explanations could be – universities picked up in educating future controllers in basic CPA, standard ERP and financial reporting

• Microsoft Business Solutions nowadays VAR/Partner/Reseller. We see segregation of duties, however it is not transparent to the end customer. Regional Partners are still deploying strong sales techniques, but they have rather strong sales force. Consulting job is subcontracted to independent consultants and customizations challenge is subcontracted to nation-wide customization partners, such as Alba Spectrum Technologies.

• Nation-wide partner specifics. You are probably lucky if you got nation-wide customization partner directly, because you can save 30% in local implementation and customization rates, due to the fact that nation-wide partner doesn’t participate in the bidding, but rather is subcontracted by the winner of the bidding battle.

We encourage you to analyze your alternatives. You can always appeal to our help, give us a call: 1-866-528-0577 or 1-630-961-5918, help@albaspectrum.com

Microsoft Dynamics AX Axapta 4.0 Project Green Advancement Notes

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Microsoft Business Solutions owns and promotes several Microsoft Dynamics family ERP applications: Axapta, Solomon, Navision, Great Plains, Microsoft CRM. All of these inherit some legacy and have obligations to the existing clientele: Great Plains has large number of clients in USA, Canada and English speaking countries, Navision has strong legacy positions in Europe, Solomon has Project Accounting clientele base, Microsoft CRM or now Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 is probably the only one new product, which has good chances to become CRM front end for all the back-end MRP systems in Microsoft Dynamics family. We would like to share with you, potential or current Microsoft Dynamics AX customer some analytics on Microsoft Project Green, however these can not be considered MBS official point of view

• Initial Phase of Project Green. Well, obviously things are changing, but we were given the impression of some so-called Microsoft Business Suites: Financials, Human Resources, Manufacturing, Project, Logistics, Supply Chain, etc. These suites will or should be built based on the best functionalities of MBS purchased ERPs: Great Plains, Axapta, Navision, Solomon

• Microsoft Office & Sharepoint integration emphasize. The trend itself is great, plus it helps in-house Microsoft-oriented development team to take initiative over, however this trend might be the way to shift away the attention from Microsoft Business Suites integration and four ERPs merge conception

• Axapta move. Initially, and this is again our opinion Axapta was purchased as the bundled addition to Navision, we should remind that Navision had excellent accounting/MRP market place in Europe: Germany, France, UK, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Spain, later on it was localized for Poland, Russia, etc. Axapta had advanced ERP functionality and was purchased by Navision Software (prior to its acquisition by Microsoft) to compete with major ERP brands: SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JDEdwards, etc.

• Microsoft Dynamics AX or GP. This is probably the most confusing and compelling question in the USA and Canada. Well, lets look at the history. Great Plains Software had at the end of XX century its major competitor Solomon, to give you long story short – GPS mastered to acquire Solomon and made it auxiliary option, prior to be in turn acquired by stronger player – Microsoft Corporation. Now Axapta/Dynamics AX is localized for Europe, Latin America: Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador. Axapta supports Unicode (China, Japan, Burma), at the same time Microsoft Dynamics GP Great Plains is Great Plains Dexterity application. To give you some background facts – Dexterity was designed in the beginning of 1990th – MorphX/X++ is definitely a step forward, but we would like to wait more signals from MBS

• Large, Mid-size and Small Business. We expect that Microsoft Dynamics is the answer for “all of us”. However the “answer” might depend on the world place and the legacy ERP scenario, which is understood and respected

• XML Web Service. This seems to be the “troyan horse of Microsoft Business Portal and Microsoft .Net”. Even if we are in MS partners program to facilitate Microsoft Dynamics sales, we are not sure what is the future interrelations between AX and GP.

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

This guide shows how to convert flash to mpeg and burn on dics. I used FlashonTV. If there is anything wrong, please let me know. I’d like to communicate with you.

First, launch FlashOnTV, you should select TV standard and background color. If you don’t know which standard your country uses, you can just select your country and the program will help you choose the standard automatically. Choose the background color you like. In the interface of Folding Setting and Output format, you can choose the FlashonTV working folder, the folder where video files as mepg format will be saved and VCD, DVD or SVCD which format you want to change.

Second, import the flashes you want to burn on the discs. The interface will display flash files’ names and you can Rename, Remove and Rearrange them. You can edit the flash files and disc space usage line will display how much space your disc leaves.

Third, choose Menu Designer, select your menu template, you can choose the present template or create by yourself. Also, you can download from website. If you want to change audio, you can select it from your hard driver as the back ground music. If you want to change template, you can add image and text to your menu template. The characters you imput in the text will display on the image. You can custom the menu image and drag the buttons and lie them anywhere you like. It feels good.

Billing Software

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Every business or company needs efficient, fast and quick results from their employees; they are more dependent on the manual work than machines for a few accurate and quick processes. The major places where there are problems, faced by either small businessmen or tycoons, are accounts or cash procedures. Even in an age where machine power is the norm, many businesses yet depend on manpower. This gives rise to inefficient and delayed results. Billing software, also known as invoice software, is software that helps us to maintain bills or accounts accurately.

It simplifies the process of manual billing and provides features like automatic invoicing, integration with other systems, time management, self service, payment processes and more. Added to this, it can be used to maintain a complete client and staff history with billing adjustments and time-slip production. This software can be also used in creating invoices, quotes, proposals and customer statements, and also to keep track of outstanding invoices and customer payments. This is a very important component that can be used in any type of business.

If the billing isn’t on time and accurate, or if the billing processes are inefficient, then there are chances of losing customers and revenue. Billing software can be the perfect solution to your problem. It can not only help get your billing done fast, but manages to save your customer contacts and provide sales reports. This software meets the requirements of not only a one-person office, but also a large network-based organization getting fast and immediate results.

If you are looking for software that will get your billing done with minimum time and maximum flexibility, get billing software in your office. Spend less time billing your customers and more time filling their needs.

Billing Software provides detailed information on Billing Software, VoIP Billing Software, Chiropractic Billing Software, Free Billing Software and more. Billing Software is affiliated with HIPAA Complaint Medical Billing Software.

Microsoft CRM Implementation: Employee Time & Billing – Notes for Consultant

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 1.2 and now 3.0 could be considered as extremely flexible platform, suitable for small, mid-size and corporate businesses, it is easily customizable via C# or VB.Net in MS VisualStudio, however you can deploy MS CRM as is for sophisticated task, such employee timecards, consultant billable hours tracking, contract management, etc. Assuming that you as business owner have IT department or even Microsoft savvy consultant – you are ready to launch employee timelog process right away, without annoying customization and custom reporting.

• Procedure. MS CRM is flexible in the sense that you can create and attach activity to virtually any object – Account, Contact, Lead, Quote, Order, Invoice, etc. If you have your consultants do just that – it will help (all the documents and info will be in CRM), however it would be no structure and you would be spending your time digging CRM in the search of historical information. Remember Lotus Notes Domino? Where you could also keep attaching and expanding lists and tree-like structure? You need the procedure and the procedure will help you structurize the data in MS CRM

• Structure. The structure, deployed for employee time management should be like this. Customer (Account) should have Contracts. Each Contract should have contract lines (where you can allocate the budget per line), then each line should have Cases (when you fulfill the contract – you assign your consultants to the cases, such as install software, fix bugs, replace old server with the new one, etc.). And finally, consultants should log cases, such as appointments (if the date and time is known) and tasks (if the date and time is now known, however you know the deadline)

• Scenario. Customer ABC has ERP Implementation contract. This contract has two lines: Software Installation (24 hours budget) and User Training (40 hours budget). You activate contract, open two cases for Installation: SQL Installation and Client installation. You assign SQL case to John and Client case to Bill. You book John for Monday onsite visit (appointment, from 8am till 4pm) to install SQL, for bill you create task – install clients for Nancy and Marilyn (you ask Bill to stop by next week, but you leave him to schedule and decide on the date). When John finishes installation, he opens MS CRM, appointment (either web or outlook client), goes to the appointment->action->close appointment (action Close Applintment->Completed) and 8 hours are logged toward SQL Installation case. When finally you close the case – you decide on the number of billable hours (you will be shown the actual and budgeted time).

• Reporting. You will probably need two reports: consultant/employee time, were you should be able to see budgeted, actual, written off time – here you evaluate consultant performance. The second report is Project status.

Writing – How to Create Cross References in FrameMaker?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

FrameMaker has a very powerful cross referencing (linking) functionality. You can easily refer to another section or element in your book by a hyper-link that will be alive when you save your document as a PDF file.

The linked cross references are updated automatically when you edit your document or book and select Edit > Update References.

Here is how you can create FrameMaker cross references easily:

Enter your cursor to where you want your cross reference to be.

Then select Special > Cross Reference (or use the very useful Esc+S+C hotkey shortcut).

In the Cross-Reference dialog box, make sure PARAGRAPH is selected for Source Type.

Select a PARAGRAPH STYLE in the PARAGRAPH TAG window. All text for the document (the NAME of which is displayed in the DOCUMENT field on top) tagged with that paragraph style will be listed in the PARAGRAPHS text box on the right.

Select the text on the right window TO WHICH you’d like to create a cross reference from your cursor position.

Then select a REFERENCE FORMAT from the drop-down list at the bottom.

Click the INSERT button and you are done. The cross reference is inserted to where your cursor is.

Now you have an accurate and great looking cross reference which will be updated every time you edit your chapter or book.

Software Automation Helps Increase your Bottom Line

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

When you own a small business, time is money. And every time a
task that should be automated is handled manually, it wastes your
time and your business loses money. To make matters even worse,
performing these tasks manually, in front of clients or
prospects, projects the wrong image.

Even though technology is readily available and even affordable,
many small business owners do not take full advantage of these
powerful software packages. It may be hard to believe, but only a
small percentage of business owners have the technical expertise
necessary to handle the automation process. The others have
neither the time to learn nor the ability to hire the experts to
do the job.

But one thing is certain: One way to increase your business’s
bottom line is to get software that automates the tasks you do
manually and consequently, inefficiently.

Something as simple as contact management software is so
valuable. First and foremost, searching for contact information
is never more than a few mouse clicks away. Some software will
even allow you to access this data while away from you office.

Have you finally mastered your email system? Love the way it
keeps you off the phone? If you’re not careful, you’ll soon be
wasting as much time responding to your email as you did
returning your phone calls.

There’s not enough space to list all the benefits of using
autoresponders or all the ways to utilize autoresponders in your
business. Here are just a few – use them to send out product and
pricing information, to capture contact names and addresses, to
help with frequently asked questions (FAQs) lists, to deliver
different chapters of an e-book – anything that keeps your
company name in front of existing or potential customers can be
handled more efficiently using an autoresponder.

Raise your hand if you’re still carrying around your paperbound
daily planner! Throw it away and get software to keep track of
your appointments and those of all your employees. You’ll
appreciate how easy it is to know who’s doing what and when.

And think about how much time you spend each year gathering the
paperwork your accountant needs at tax time to prepare your
company income taxes. Why allow your accountant to charge you his
or her hourly rate to do the type of data entry you could have
been doing all year long IF you had only purchased AND installed
business accounting software.

If you think, “Well, I do this only once a year,” you are right,
but remember, there are many more income-generating things you
can do with the time you are wasting. Every second of saved time
helps your business operate more efficiently.

Even the most automated of offices is doomed should your hardware
ever crash and your data not be backed up. And we’re not talking
about “if” this crisis will occur; we’re talking about “when” it
will occur. There are so many easy-to-use and affordable backup
software programs available that you’ve no good excuse for not
backing up your valuable data.

There are many other business tasks you can automate but there’s
not enough room to list them all. Tasks like project management,
employee management and inventory management are more efficient
when they are automated. You can even translate your paper
marketing and sales information for fast and easy delivery via
the Internet.

There’s no end to the list of office tasks that can be automated
using the software that is readily available today. Put together
an office automation budget and decide which tasks are the most
important to automate. Then get going – you’ve got work to do!

Volunteer Anthony Loeff is reporting software applications for visually impaired

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. More and more, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions.

Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

Further functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. Most legally blind people 58 percent do not use computers. Almost 23 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. Indeed, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

This season Anthony Loeff medical volunteer is testing software for people who are blind The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen.
