Algebra Helps You Deal with Numbers

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Algebra is the one which is used for getting our daily tasks completed. We are a kind that constantly keeps counting, measuring, dividing, and multiplying.

History of Algebra

Invented in the first millennium BC, algebra has its sources in the middle-east. The ancient geniuses applied algebra for solving daily problems while the Asian or rather Chinese counterpart applied geometry for the same purpose.

The Nature of Algebra

Although you may see algebra as solving formulas, simplifying rational expressions , and converting fractions to decimals, algebra has a much larger body of knowledge and applicability. Since this view has been understood, the education system pushes us to learn algebra from the inception of our bookman life.

Algebra I

The students are given an introduction in this study course to numbers, solving linear equations, graphing systems of linear equations, graphing linear inequalities, laws of exponents, solving linear equations, and factoring polynomials. This is the base level course of study for all the other levels of algebra.
If a pupil is keen on studying algebra down to its roots, then this is a study course that should be tackled well.

Algebra II

Once the students are sound with Algebra I concepts, Algebra II can be taken up for widening the spectrum of this fantastic section of mathematics. There are two views of Algebra II; emphasizing more on the topics studied in Algebra I and foundation to new constructs. When it comes to the new introductions, adding and subtracting matrices, quadratic functions, resolving exponential equations, probability and statistics are fundamental.
At this stage, the studies are more centered on the depth of mathematical constructs rather than the coverage of many topics.

College Algebra

This is one of the most important stages of learning Algebra with virtually no new topic introduced. I assume it is quite humorous, but this is what maths is. Do you know why maths is called the queen of all sciences ? That’s because of the irregular nature of mathematics!

Help!!!

Algebra has the most wide-ranging methods and tools accessible for getting aid. The first and the foremost principal source is an Algebra tutor from whom you can get help and aid.
In addition to the above methods, students should never undervalue the use of Algebra software system that is especially designed to solve algebraic problems with illustrative steps. This computer software really adds insight in to Algebraic operations of solving equations , by allowing students to simply watch and learn through examples.

Hero’s Journey: The Trials; A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

From our deconstructions of more than 100 Hollywood Blockbusters:

Hero’s Journey

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

The Trials

Once the Hero is in the First Threshold, he [in effect] undergoes a series of trials. These are separate and distinct from the trials in the Transformation stage.

The trials in this [and the Transformation stage] follow a number of patterns. One of them is this: Often, the first is passive. The second is proactive. And the third is dramatic.

For example, in A Beautiful Mind (Academy Award Winner,2001):

Trial 1: (passive) Nash just sits in the library for two days: “…you’ve been in here for two days…”"…Martin’s already published a paper and I can’t even find a topic for my doctorate…”

Trial 2: (proactive) Nash hits on the girl in the bar: “…essentially we’re talking about fluid exchange, right…”

Trial 3: (dramatic) Nash and Charles have a fight and throw the desk out of the window: “…that Isaac Newton fellow was right…”

How to Get Started In Public Speaking

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Public speaking is among the five most feared activities human
beings encounter.

The majority of us fear it worse than anything else. Yet, the
mastery of public speaking is an important tool in our business
skill set.

It’s never too early (or too late) to learn to speak in public.
Every one needs to start somewhere. The best strategy is to look
for non-threatening opportunities with familiar surroundings,
friends and colleagues. Plan your speaking gigs in stages
starting out with a small comfortable group then increasing the
number of members in the audience and finally tackle the
prominence of the engagement.

Become a member of the leadership team where you need to give
reports or host meetings. In these instances, you will have
prepared material in front of you. Practice with the material as
if you were giving the speech. Don’t just read the material; live it and convey it with feeling. When you begin with an audience, remember to make eye contact. Watch how people are receiving your information. Do they look bored? Adjust your inflection
accordingly.

Do you participate in a professional association, social club or
sport that hosts regular meetings? Ask to make a short
presentation. If this is too daunting volunteer to introduce
another speaker. This will get you in front of an audience but
the spotlight won’t be on you because you are not the primary
focus. It will help you to feel comfortable with a stage, a mike, and an audience. If you are comfortable with jumping right in, ask to be the keynote. Plan for it to be informal so that you get the experience of speaking in front of a group but you don’t have to extensively prepare or make a formal presentation.

Make sure to ask for feedback. The simplest way to do this is to
have an evaluation sheet. Write the questions using a ranking of
1-5 for answers. Leave space for writing an additional
assessment, but the less work someone has to do in an evaluation
the better the response.

Tip: Make sure to collect the completed forms before the audience leaves the room. Otherwise, you will never get them back.

After a few informal speaking occasions plan to make a
“real” speech. Make it about something you are an
expert on so the material will come naturally. Prepare for 20
minutes tops for this type of presentation with a ten minute
Q& A You will want to have notes but it is imperative that
you are comfortable with the topic. It has to be part of your
repertoire so that it comes to you even if you get off track. The more you know about the subject the more comfortable you will be with your audience.

Tip: About 8 pages of typed material equals 20 minutes if you
speak in an even measured rate.

Tip: As a friend or a moderator to ask a question even if the
audience doesn’t have one (Prepare several questions in advance).

Look for panel opportunities that allow several participants.
Once again, this gives you time in front of the microphone where
the focus is not just on you. It also helps because there is a
moderator who will keep the dialogue going if you hit a rough
patch. It’s also good to discuss before hand what the moderator
will ask and what they expect from you in the way of a
presentation. How long will it take? How many questions you will
be asked, etc.

Tip: In this instance, you are part of a team. Don’t hog the
limelight. If your material is good and you are well prepared,
you will come out as a credible participant.

Tip: Never serve on a panel blindly without knowing what you are
going to be asked in advance.

After you have mastered the informal and the panel, it’s time for some serious speech giving: The 45-minute program with 10 minutes of Q&A.

This requires preparation and practice; a good venue for this is
a trade show or conference. At these affairs they are always
looking for speaker. Plan months in advance. Contact the
organizing group about your topic. Make sure your topic fits with the conference theme otherwise it might not draw the audience you want.

Tip: Abstracts are required in advance of the actual event.
Unless you are an expert at winging it, do your homework early.
The abstract should be the framework for your presentation. This
will give you ample time to prepare your speech and presentation
and add new material should something relevant happen.

Tip: You want your material fresh. Always look to current events
or hot button issues to make the presentation contemporary.

Tip: As a beginner, be advised to stay away from the more exotic
aspects of speech giving. If you use PowerPoint, make it simple.
Remember, the more complicated it gets the greater the chance for something to go wrong. Always take a backup CD and at least two printed copies of your speech.

There are groups such as toastmasters that you can join that will allow you the opportunity to speak in front of a group in a
non-threatening environment. To find out about a group near you
go to http://www.toastmasters.org/

Remember everyone has to start somewhere. The more you speak
front of people the more comfortable you will become. The
audience is not the enemy. They are there to learn from you.
Share the wealth of your knowledge. Keep that thought in mind
when in front of the podium.

How to Use Articles to Increase Web Site Traffic!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

A simple technique to increase web site traffic is using articles.

Just imagine… Hundreds, even thousands, of theme-related sites having one-way links to your site! What would that do for your web site? Would your page rank increase? How much of an increase in web site traffic do you think you would see?

I can tell you from experience that it will blow your mind away. It is truly an amazing and simple strategy for increasing web site traffic, but very few site owners are doing it! Quality articles are in big demand on the web from article directories, webmasters looking for great content, and e-zine publishers. Just one article can spread across the web like wildfire taking your website URL and name along with it!

I am going to provide you with a simple 4-step process that will show you how to use articles to increase web site traffic and explode your online sales. I know many of you are saying, “I can’t write and really don’t have the time”. It is O.K., no one is asking you to become the next Ernest Hemingway, so don’t worry, just relax and follow these simple steps.

If you do, I guarantee you will see results almost overnight. So let’s get started!

RESEARCH

This is vital to writing articles that will be snatched up by all of those people looking for great content to put on their sites and in their e-zines.

It starts by finding keywords that are relevant to your site and searched for around 10,000-20,000 times per month. Keywords that have more searches than that tend to have too much competition from competing sites. Use Overture or another keyword research tool to find keywords and phrases that give us the results mentioned above.

Next, you want to go to Google and type those keywords in to see how many search results you find. Preferably, you want less than 100 million results. The reason for this is when you optimize your article and turn it into a webpage we will be able to get a high ranking to help with traffic. We will get to that later!

Now that you have found the keyword or phrase to build your article around it is time to put it to use.

WRITING THE ARTICLE

You will build the article around the one or two keywords that you have chosen. Do not try to use more than two keywords because it becomes too cumbersome to write the article and optimize it for your web site. Just follow this outline and you will produce attention grabbing articles that leave people wanting more.

1. TITLE – You need to have a catchy title that contains your main keyword. Some directories and webmasters will only display your article by the title. So it needs to grab the reader’s attention and make them want to click on it.

2. INTRODUCTION – This opening sentence or paragraph must draw the reader in and entice them to read the rest of the article. If your opening sentence is weak you will loose their attention and the back button will be all you get!

3. BODY – You need to fill the body with relevant and helpful information that will be of use to the reader. Make the body easy to read. I like to use an outline, but you can use other styles. Just make sure that your paragraphs are not too long and that you keep your focus on the main point of the article.

4. CONCLUSION – Make sure that you close the article strong and let the reader know that the information you have provided is helpful. A strong closing is extremely important to a quality article.

5. RESOURCE BOX – For those of you that don’t know, this is the little box at the end of the article that talks about the author. The resource box is the most important part of the article. This is where your link is, so you need to have a convincing call to action to get them to click. The resource box is the most overlooked part of writing effective articles. Make sure that you make your link live when you submit it to the directories; this is critical and too many people make that mistake.

As a good rule of thumb you need to make the article around 500-1200 words not including the resource box. I have written longer articles, but some directories will not allow you to submit if you go over a certain amount of words, so check with the submission site and make sure your article will work. If it is too long, just make some adjustments to meet the guidelines.

SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE

In order to get the most use out of your article you will need to submit it to as many relevant article directories and announcement lists as you can. In my opinion, article directories are more important because they will keep your article in their archives for long periods of time. This will give you an incoming link from a high paged rank site. Article announcement lists will not give you the same kind of results because they are short lived. It is beneficial to submit to them, however, for the exposure. The downside to announcement lists is that they do not provide any long term benefits.

There are several article directories on the web but some of the ones I like to use because they are high traffic sites are:

http://www.goarticles.com
http://www.ezinearticles.com
http://www.articlecity.com

There are several more quality directories that you can submit to but these will give you a great start.

UPLOAD YOUR ARTICLE TO YOUR WEB SITE AS A WEB PAGE.

The last thing that I would recommend is to optimize your article for the keyword that you have chosen and upload it to your web site as a web page. This will add quality content to your web site and give your site more search engine “bait”. The ultimate goal is to get targeted traffic by utilizing articles.

There are a couple of things that I would like to recommend that you do when you optimize your article. First, make sure that your keyword density is about 1-3% in your article. If you go much higher than this you could get hit for spamming and that is the last thing you want to happen.

The second tip is to make sure that you build a site map for all of your articles and put it on one of your web sites. This will help lead the search engines to all of your articles and will help you with your rankings.

Using articles is a great way to increase web site traffic and build credibility. Articles will increase the number of incoming links to your site and beef up your profitability. If you follow the steps I laid out for you in this article you will be on your way to increasing your web site traffic. Articles are an inexpensive and very effective way to advertise your site and build credentials on the internet.

So take this guide and go increase your web site traffic!

Is Information Delivery Instruction?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Do you work for one of those organisations whose “training” invariably consists of someone standing up in front of a group and saying something? If you answered ‘yes’, you’re not alone. It’s a common practice which leads to a widely held perception among many that it’s training. It’s a perception that has annoyed me over many years. I’m not against information sessions … they have their place. What I am against is calling them ‘training sessions’.

Information sessions are very useful for, strangely enough, disseminating information. They are next to useless for transferring learning. True, you can run an information session advising staff in a credit union that the interest rate has risen from 6.3% to 6.7% and that from hereon they are to use that rate in all transactions. It would be hard to argue that there wasn’t at least an element of learning involved (and by inference, training). After all, everyone who attended probably learnt that the new rate of interest is 6.7%.

But consider the long-winded, verbose information session. How much does anyone expect to learn from that? The problem with these types of sessions is that there is usually no learning focus ie, by way of learning outcomes or objectives, no structure in the content, no practice, and little guidance in what to remember and what not to remember. It’s simply a matter of … ‘This morning I’m going to tell you about the new procedures for ….’ And then, blah, blah with dozens of overhead projection slides.

I’ve attended possibly thousands of information sessions. I’m an information junkie. It’s an illness I’ve never been able to overcome. I just have to attend everything that sounds like it is relevant or interesting for which I have time (and sometimes the money). I don’t go to learn specific facts, but to hear others’ points of view. I may recall some outstanding facts and opinions, but as time passes and I move onto the next information session, the content of the previous one is forgotten.

Occasionally I write notes about what I heard and I link them to things that are relevant to me. This helps me to consolidate major themes and also provides a source of reference when I want to revisit the concepts or principles again. In some cases, just writing the topic and linking it to what is relevant to me makes a huge difference.

Recently the definition of what is, or is not training or learning, has been blurred by the different ways in which we now facilitate learning. Essentially, we still learn the same way, but the method of processing the content is different. For example, just-in-time training uses a demand/supply methodology … we learn something just before we need it so that we don’t carry around a bag full of knowledge, skills or attitudes that we may never use. Online learning is a model that should still use structure, repetition, revision, assessment, feedback and all the other good things learning involves. Then there’s on-the-job learning which is still popular, but doesn’t differentiate between accurate learning and learning from low performers who perpetuate their performance in others.

Improving Your Info Sessions

You can improve the value of an information session by doing just a few simple things. If the session is intended just to tell someone what a great trip to China you had, it really doesn’t matter what they remember. If you are telling someone about the new, revised procedures of your firm, focus on the changes that have occurred between the old procedures and the new procedures. At the end of the session ask questions to clear up doubtful points, then give your audience a summary of the changes to which they can refer when needed as a memory aid.

Alternatively, if the information session is about something else, consider this; if there are more than about five to nine key points to make, break the session into several sub-sessions and do not handle more than the five to nine points in each. Write the key points you intend to make on a whiteboard or display them on a projector screen in point form. Then address each point concisely and accurately. Explain the how, what, when, where and why of each point. Ask your audience if there are any questions, answer them and tick off each point before moving to the next point.

By not exceeding say seven points (the middle of the range) you reduce the chances of detrimental information overload. The visual cue helps your audience to ‘home in’ on the topic you are addressing, to recall what has been finished, and know what is to follow. They can then mentally separate content into meaningful and manageable ‘parcels’. This chunking will result in an information session becoming as near to a training session as possible without crossing the border.

When you do the next session in a series, have a short revision session. Ask some questions to get people thinking about the topic. For example. ‘Last session we covered five key points to consider when analysing financial statements … what was one of them … [pause] … John?” This helps establish a mental link between the previous and current topic.

Information certainly ain’t instruction, but it can be much more effective with a little planning, structure and effort. At your next information session, give some of these ideas a run. You’ll find they are much more successful.

Do You Want Fries With That? – Using Suggestive Selling to Increase Your Sales

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Suggestive selling is a powerful tool that can increase your revenuesand your bottom linesignificantly. We are all used to the order taker at a fast food place asking if we want fries with our burgers, or if we would like to “Jumbo-Size” our orders, but suggestive selling can work in any business.

Shoe stores suggest socks or polish to go with your new sneakers, hair salons recommend styling products, and stores selling electronics offer an extended warranty on the gadget you just bought. In each case, the business encourages the customer to add on to the purchase they are making.

Upselling can be done in person, on the phone or over the Internet. Many online shopping carts allow you to set up a product-specific upselling page. That means that when someone orders Product A, they get the suggestion that goes with that product. Someone who orders another product receives a recommendation appropriate to that product.

Here are some tips to make suggestive selling work for you:

Make the suggestion after the customer has made a commitment to buy. Don’t try to add on to the sale before the customer has made a firm decision and is in the process of buying.

Upsells should be related to the original purchase. An upgrade, a warranty, accessories, or something else that adds on to what the customer is buying can be effective. The customer is more likely to see such a suggestion as helpful than as simply a sales ploy.

Consider making the upsell a “two-fer” offer. Because the customer bought one item at regular price, they are able to get a second at half price.

The add-on product should have a lesser cost than the base purchase. Suggesting batteries to go with a radio works. Recommending a radio to go with a battery purchase doesn’t.

Don’t hit customers with a lot of upsells. One (or possibly two) is enough. Badgering them to buy more can backfire and maybe even kill the sale completely.

Make sure employees and order takers are making upsell offers to customers. Remind them of the importance of doing so, and consider rewarding them for great results, or even when you “catch” them upselling. Give telephone order takers a script that includes a suggestive sales offer.

Done properly, an upsell is helpful to the customer and builds your profits as well.

Texas Auto Insurance Policy

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Texas Auto Insurance Requirements

  • Bodily Injury Liability: $25,000/$50,000 Limit
  • Property Damage Liability: $25,000 Limit

*As of 4/1/08,these higher requirements moved into effect

In Texas, an individual must always be found answerable for causing an accident and they, along with their insurance underwriter, are liable for paying for consequential damages. This observes the principles of the tort system – a system that has deviating principles depending on the state.

To have better insurance security, you can opt for underinsured motorist coverage. This insurance policy option addresses the costs involved with bodily injury caused in an accident with an uninsured motorist. This type of auto insurance coverage isn’t obligatory in the state of Texas, but it is urged to at least review if this specific type of auto insurance coverage would be beneficial for you.

Texas auto insurance can be highly priced. In 2003, the average insurance premium was a bit above $900 and some Texans are not informed that their auto insurance rates could be shrunken. Auto insurance rate quote comparison companies recognize there are lower auto insurance rates available for you in Texas, and will help you receive them.

These auto insurance rate comparison websites can help you save money, but it isn’t a guarantee to always keeping your insurance costs low. Insurance Insurance costs generally grow over the years. 2007 saw the first decrease in expenses since 1999. The reduction was around 1% and the decrases continued through most of 2008. However, by the end of 2008, rates again began to go up.

As time goes by the insurance costs also vary and by dismissing the rate changes in Texas, you might be paying more than you need to. In just one year, insurance rates in Texas increase by about 6%! Don’t waste your money paying high costs, start saving now by finding an online quote from multiple auto insurance rate comparison websites now.

Finally, Manchester Gets High-speed Fibre Optic Broadband

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Last year, a major announcement was made when the City Council of Manchester declared that soon high-end broadband connectivity in the form of a FTTP-enabled network would be launched in the area. As the project goes into the implementation phase, work is about to commence around Oxford Road to install the ‘fibre to the premises’ network, as promised to the residents.

People in the area are eagerly awaiting the launch of these services, because it has been said that once the network begins operating, the broadband speeds available to the residents will be raised exponentially almost by a thousand times. The initiative is a part of the project called Next Generation Digital Citythat has been undertaken for the upgrade of Manchester area’s digital infrastructure.

Councillor Neil Swannick further added that this project was bound to have a major impact on the entire community of Manchester, and place the area’s infrastructure at par with global broadband standards. He added that faster, accessible and comparatively affordable broadband connectivity was necessary to stay competitive. He further stressed upon the fact that the UK’s broadband consumers were at a distinct disadvantage when compared with their counterparts from the rest of the Western Europe. Places like Manchester face stiff competition from the likes of Paris and Amsterdam that are providing fibre-based broadband services at costs that are significantly lower when compared to the existing rates throughout the UK.

The project is not limited to installing the new fibre-based network in just one area. The plan is to spread the installation process to more areas in the vicinity to ensure that nearby places such as East Manchester can also benefit. Central Park District too would soon be digitally upgraded under this endeavour, as it would get a sophisticated Internet Hub.

Hunting the Best Colour Printer Cartridges for Custom Colour Printing

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Custom colour printing is very popular for the creation of unique documents and brochures for promotional and presentation purposes. Usage of special coloured ink and ink jet printer cartridges is quite common in custom colour printing services.

Custom Colour Printing: The New Trend

It’s good to have to have a unique document with different colours and combinations that suit his/her needs. This is possible through specialised printer ink cartridges and inkjet ink that enable printers to provide custom printing services, such as poster printing, brochure printing, business cards, catalogues, banners and labels. High quality pictures and printouts are much in demand for their beautiful and lively presentation. Coloured ink cartridges are generally used for printing graphics and other specialised products.

Customised printing is possible through the use of good quality and appropriate . Most coloured printers use two types of cartridges, one containing black ink and the other containing the three primary colours. Then there are specialised printer ink cartridges that are designed to print photographs.

Most printer manufacturers also supply print cartridges required for refill purposes. However, several cheaper options in the form of compatible or re manufactured inkjet are available on the market. The manufacturers of these products claim to provide quality that matches that of OEM products but at a much lower cost.

Up to now,, the quality of colour printing was largely dependent on inkjet printing. Some companies, such as Samsung, have however, recently introduced laser printers that include toners that are kept in bottle shaped cylinders that slide into colour coded ports in the print engine.

Features Of Good Colour Ink Cartridges

The quality of printing depends on the quality of the printer ink cartridges being used and the continuous supply of ink. Superior printing and perfect images are for providing high quality custom colour printing services. ink cartridges that are resistant to smudging provide clear and crisp printouts. Another essential feature of all quality ink is that it dries quickly and captures the true colour and even the smallest detail of the graphic and photo image.
